CHALLENGE
Design a contemporary residence on a steep hillside with limited access and significant environmental constraints, while delivering a refined architectural expression that would not read as prefabricated.
SOLUTION
An off-site modular construction strategy allowed major components to be fabricated under controlled conditions and efficiently assembled on site, minimizing disturbance to the hillside. The home is composed as a series of interlocking volumes that step with the slope, carefully oriented to frame valley views. A curved roof form anchors the composition and softens the massing, echoing the surrounding terrain. Durable materials including zinc shingles, wood panels, heavy timber, and black aluminum windows establish a contemporary alpine character. Interior spaces are positioned along the view edge, with terraces extending living areas outward. The result is a precise, expressive mountain home that balances constructability, environmental sensitivity, and architectural ambition.
