Create a contemporary urban infill townhome project that delivers meaningful residential density without sacrificing livability, affordability, or neighborhood compatibility. The project needed to balance durability, modern design appeal, and developer viability within Boise's evolving downtown fabric.
As a member of the design team at Cole Architects, Mark contributed to this urban infill community through design development and construction documentation. The project was organized as a series of two- and three-story townhomes scaled to maintain a human presence along the street. Carefully composed facades use durable materials including fiber-cement panels, metal cladding, and natural wood accents to achieve longevity while establishing a modern identity. Private balconies and outdoor spaces were integrated into each unit, reinforcing livability and connection to the neighborhood. Alternating rooflines and a rhythm of vertical and horizontal elements break down massing and reduce perceived scale. Interior layouts prioritize efficiency, natural light, and flexibility, supporting both long-term living and investment value.
A successful model for contemporary urban housing, increasing density while enhancing walkability and contributing positively to Boise's downtown residential landscape. The project demonstrates how developer-driven multifamily design can deliver architectural quality, investment value, and neighborhood compatibility simultaneously.
