Residential
Challenge
The San Diego Casa required a residential design that could take full advantage of the California coastal climate, maximizing outdoor living, patio architecture, and views while creating a home with clear indoor-outdoor flow and a composed aerial presence on its site.
Solution
The design organizes the residence around a series of outdoor rooms: entry court, primary patio, and view terrace, functioning as outdoor living space across multiple seasons. The building's massing and roof geometry create a strong aerial composition while the entry elevation and rear perspective each read as independent, resolved facades.
Result
A California custom residence with fully developed outdoor living architecture and strong multi-elevation presence, extending Fine Line's residential design range to a Pacific coastal climate and demonstrating the practice's 5-state licensed capability.

California Residential
"The California climate is an architectural gift. It rewards outdoor rooms, patio living, and view-oriented design in ways the Intermountain West cannot always match. Taking full advantage of it is a design problem worth solving carefully."
The San Diego Casa demonstrates Fine Line's ability to design custom residences appropriate to climates and regions beyond the Intermountain West core, a direct expression of the practice's 5-state licensure and 30+ year range of project experience across multiple western states.
