High-Performance Foothills Residence • Boise, Idaho
Design a foothills residence that achieves high energy performance while maintaining daylight, views, and architectural clarity. The project required careful coordination of massing, glazing, and construction to balance comfort, durability, and long-term efficiency.
The home utilizes insulated concrete forms for the foundation and exterior walls, creating a robust, airtight, and highly insulated envelope. Orientation, window placement, and overhangs were calibrated to support passive solar gain while controlling heat during warmer months. Continuous insulation and reduced thermal bridging improve indoor comfort and air quality while lowering energy demand. Exterior materials were selected for durability and compatibility with the foothills landscape. Interior spaces remain open and light-filled, ensuring performance strategies enhance rather than limit livability.
