Treasure Valley
Prototype Adaptation
Challenge
Adapt an established branch prototype to a new community while maintaining brand consistency, operational efficiency, and a welcoming public presence. Frontier Credit Union needed a new branch in Star, Idaho — a fast-growing Treasure Valley community — that aligned with the organization's existing prototype while responding to the specific character and context of the new site. The building had to project institutional trust, support efficient teller and office operations, and meet the energy performance standards expected of a modern financial institution.
Solution
The prototype was tailored to the Star site through careful site planning, orientation, and material adaptation. Clear circulation, organized parking, and prominent street visibility reinforce accessibility and member confidence. Stone, metal panels, and strong horizontal forms maintain brand identity while responding to local context. Inside, a bright open lobby, glass-enclosed private offices, and efficient sightlines support both member experience and daily operations. Energy-efficient building systems reduce long-term operating costs throughout the facility's life.
Result
A fully operational credit union branch serving the Star community — delivered as a site-specific adaptation of an established institutional prototype. The project demonstrates Fine Line's ability to work within client-defined systems and brand standards while producing architecture that responds to its specific site and community. Prototype adaptation work of this kind requires discipline as much as design: the architect must solve the problem once in a way that holds across different contexts.
Prototype adaptation is one of the most commercially valuable services an architect can offer a growing institution. It requires deep understanding of the client's operational model, brand standards, and construction economics — not just design skill. Fine Line has delivered this type of multi-location work for both financial institutions and industrial clients, making it a credible partner for any organization planning branch expansion or facility rollout across the Intermountain West.
This project was completed in collaboration with Cole Architects. Fine Line Studio contributed to design development and production documentation as a collaborating architect.
